How to keep a to-do list using Goal Maker
To keep a to-do list using Goal Maker, put your one-off things on its built-in To-do list. It sits below your goals on the Today screen until you move it. Give each to-do the days you want to see it, and a deadline if it has one. Tick it once and it is done.
Goal tasks and to-dos are different. A goal’s tasks repeat. “Apply for jobs” comes up every Monday and Thursday until you reach the goal. A to-do is a one-off, such as “Renew the car registration” or “Book the dentist”. It belongs to no goal.
Time-management writer Harold Taylor keeps these one-off things on a separate to-do list. Goal Maker does the same.
The To-do list. Every Goal Maker account has one, on Today and in Manage. It starts below the goals. In Manage, drag it by its grip to put it anywhere among them, such as at the top. Today shows it in the same place, and moves it below the rest once nothing on it is left to do that day, as it does with a finished goal.
- Add a to-do with its name and the days you want to see it. You can also give it a start time, a length and alarms, as on any task.
- Give it a deadline if it has one. Before the deadline, it shows on its chosen days. From the deadline on, it shows on Today every day until you tick it.
- Tick it once to finish it. It shows crossed out that day, and is gone from the next.
- Finished to-dos come back with “Show earlier done” in Manage.
Today shows both. Today lists the goal tasks due today, then the to-dos due today below them. One screen holds everything for the day.
If a to-do turns into regular work, drag it onto a goal in Manage. It becomes that goal’s task. A goal’s task dragged onto the To-do list becomes a to-do.
