Goal setting: How to learn a language using Goal Maker

To learn a language using Goal Maker, set the goal with a level and an end date, then add daily and weekly study tasks. Here is an example.

Goal: Reach A1 in a new language in six months. A1 is the first level of the CEFR, the common European scale for languages.

Start: today. End: six months from today.

Tasks:

  • Study 20 new words. Every day, 12:30 PM, 30 minutes.
  • Study one chapter of a language course. Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM, 20 minutes.
  • Listen to a podcast in the language. Tuesday and Thursday, 6:00 PM, 15 minutes.
  • Say a few sentences out loud about your day. Saturday, 10:00 AM, 15 minutes.

Make the goal specific. “Learn a language” is a start. “Reach A1 in six months” tells you the level to aim for and when.

Words and the course are the main tasks. Listening and speaking help you use what you learn.

To set it up in Goal Maker, add the goal with its start and end, then add each task with its days, start time and length. Open Goal Maker.

It is not a race. Tick off each task on the days it is due.
